How the break calculator works

Most breakers price by feel, then find out days later — when the payout hits — that the "profitable" break actually lost money once platform fees came out. The calculator removes the guesswork by working out the one number that matters most: your break-even price per spot, the price where you stop losing money before any profit.

The formula

Break-even isn't just cost divided by spots. The platform takes its cut off the top of every sale, so you have to gross that back up:

The division at the end is the part most breakers skip. Subtracting the fee from your price understates what you need to charge, because the fee also applies to the extra you add to cover the fee. Dividing by (1 − fee%) is what actually gets you back to even.

A worked example

Say a box cost you $450, you're adding $20 in extra costs (shipping, supplies), and selling 32 spots on Whatnot at a typical ~11% take:

Notice that's more than the naive "$470 ÷ 32 = $14.69." The $2.13 gap per spot is the platform's cut you'd have quietly eaten. Across 32 spots that's about $68 — often the entire difference between a profitable break and a losing one. The calculator does this instantly and shows your price at conservative, standard, and aggressive margin tiers.
